Papers appearing in the Journal comprise Rapid Communications, Feature Articles, Reviews, Articles, which should contain original information, theoretical or experimental, on any topics in the field of polymer science and polymer material science. Papers already published or scheduled to be published elsewhere should not be submitted and certainly will not be accepted.

Rapid Communications deal with significant findings worthy of urgent publication. For papers submitted for publication as Rapid Communications, a brief introduction outlining the significance of the work and the rationale for urgent publication must be submitted together with the manuscript.

Feature Articles and Reviews are usually invited by the Editor, but a topic proposed by an author or authors via the editorial office can also be considered. Feature Articles are limited to review of the author's/ authors' own results from a systematic research, which have been published recently, in part or in whole. Reviews can be an authoritative overview of a field, a comprehensive literature review, or tutorial-style reference materials.

Submission Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript, please check your submission for the following: 

  • Manuscripts should be submitted via web-based online submission system ( and all co-authors should be entered with contact information and e-mail addresses for each.
  • Title should not include words such as “First”, “Novel”, “New”, and serial numbers are not allowed.
  • A brief Abstract (50–250 words) should be included with all manuscript types.
  • Keywords (3–5 words) should be included after the Abstract.
  • The entire manuscript text should be formatted according to the manuscript template of this journal.
  • Graphical Abstract

a. A graphical abstract (color encouraged) should be provided, preferably at the end of the manuscript, with the page labeled as “for Graphical Abstract use only”, and the title and author list.

b. The illustration should be visually appealing, and highlight the most important aspect of the work.

c. The graphic should be provided in the actual size to be used, which will fit in an area 10 cm wide by 5 cm high.

  • Figures and Tables

a. Figures and Tables should be embedded within the manuscript text at a nearby paragraph break near the first mention in the text.

b. Figures and Tables should not appear in the single file, at the bottom or the top of the file.

  • Electronic Supplementary Information (ESI)

a. All nonessential figures, tables, and procedures should be included as ESI and uploaded as a separate file (WORD, PDF recommended) at the same time as manuscript submission.

b. The availability of ESI should be mentioned in a separate paragraph in the manuscript, placed immediately before the references, as: “Electronic Supplementary Information.


All text (including the title page, abstract, all sections of the body of the paper, figure captions, scheme or chart titles and footnotes, and references) and tabular material should be in one file. The uploaded files (Manuscript file + Graphic(s) for manuscript) will be converted into a PDF proof. This is how the manuscript will appear when sent to reviewers. This PDF proof must be viewed and validated before submission is completed. Authors are also encouraged to upload their own PDF version of the manuscript.

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts must be submitted via the website or Complete instructions and an overview of the electronic online (Web) submission process are available through the secure Web site. Authors must also submit all revisions of manuscripts via the website The Web submission site employs state-of-the-art security mechanisms to ensure that all electronically submitted papers are secure. These same security mechanisms are also utilized throughout the peer-review process, permitting access only to editors and reviewers who are assigned to a particular paper.

The entire manuscript (including abstract, references, tables, and figure legends) should be formatted according to the manuscript template of this journal. All pages should be numbered consecutively. Sequences of figures, tables, charts, and schemes should also be numbered, with Arabic numerals.

Patent Activities and Intellectual Property Issues

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all patent activities and intellectual property issues are satisfactorily resolved prior to the first publication (ASAP or in issue). Acceptance and publication will not be delayed for pending or unresolved issues of this nature.

Preparation of Manuscript

Authors should write in clear, concise English and follow the style of headings in a current issue of Chinese Journal of Polymer Science. Authors as non-native speakers of English should have the spelling, grammar, and style checked by someone fully proficient in the English language.

  • Assistance with English LanguageEditing. Authors may want to have their manuscripts edited professionally before submission to improve clarity. The English Editing Service can assist you in improving and polishing the language in your manuscript, but it will usually charge the service at your own cost.
  • Journal Publishing Agreement. A properly completed and signed Journal Publishing Agreement must be submitted for each manuscript. Chinese Journal of Polymer Science provides an electronic version of the Agreement that will be available on the Authors tab of the Journal Home page. A PDF version of the Agreement is also available, but Authors are strongly encouraged to use the electronic Journal Publishing Agreement. If the PDF version is used, all pages of the signed PDF Agreement must be submitted. If the Corresponding Author cannot or should not complete either the electronic or PDF version for any reason, another authorized Author should complete and sign the PDF version of the form.   • Conflict of Interest Disclosure. A statement describing any financial conflicts of interest or lack thereof is required for each manuscript. During the submission process, the corresponding author must provide this statement on behalf of all authors of the manuscript. The statement should describe all potential sources of bias, including affiliations, funding sources, and financial or management relationships, which may constitute conflicts of interest. The statement will be published in the final article. If no conflict of interest is declared, the following statement will be published in the article: “The authors declare no competing financial interest.”.
  • Institution Identification. Many Funders and Institutions require that institutional affiliations are identified for all authors listed in the work being submitted.
  • Author List. During manuscript submission, the submitting author must provide contact information (full name, email address, institutional affiliation and mailing address) for all of the co-authors. Because all of the author names are automatically imported into the electronic Journal Publishing Agreement, the names must be entered in the same sequence as they appear on the first page of the manuscript. (Note that co-authors are not required to register.) The author who submits the manuscript for publication accepts the responsibility of notifying all co-authors that the manuscript is being submitted. Deletion of an author after the manuscript has been submitted requires a confirming letter to the Editor-in-Chief from the author whose name is being deleted.
  • Graphical Abstract for Submissions. Graphical abstract (GA) is required for all papers when first submitted to Chinese Journal of Polymer Science. The graphic should capture the reader’s attention, be in conjunction with the manuscript title, and give the reader a quick visual impression of the essence of the paper. Examples include structures, graphs, drawings, SEM/TEM/AFM images, or reaction schemes, but tables or spectra are not appropriate. Color is encouraged and will be free of charge. The author should submit a graphic in the actual size to be used for the GA, fitting in an area no larger than 10 cm × 5 cm. Larger images will be reduced to fit within those dimensions for final publication. Type size of labels, formulas, or numbers within the graphic must be legible. The page should be labeled “for Graphical Abstract use only” and contain the title and authors of the paper. This item should be appended as the last page of the manuscript.
  • Title. Titles should clearly and concisely reflect the emphasis and content of the paper. Titles are of great importance for current awareness and information retrieval and should be carefully constructed for these purposes. Please note that the use of serial numerals in the title (e.g., “broad topic. 2. specific subject”) is not permitted.
  • Author List. Bylines should include all those who have made substantial contributions to the work. All coauthors need to be included during the submission process. To facilitate indexing and retrieval and for unique identification of an author, use first names, initials, and surnames (e.g., Kai-cheng Wang). At least one author must be designated with an asterisk as the person to whom correspondence should be addressed.
  • An abstract must be provided for all submissions. For full-length articles, use between 50 and 250 words in complete, concise sentences to indicate what is new, different, and significant. The abstract should be presented in a findings-oriented format; that is, one in which the first sentence is a succinct, informative summation of the most important results and conclusions. The remainder should highlight pertinent supporting details, related findings, types or classes of compounds investigated, and methods used. The abstract should be self-contained for direct use in Chemical Abstracts or other secondary services. For shorter papers, abstracts should be correspondingly brief.
  • The Experimental Section should provide a clear, unambiguous description of materials, methods, and equipment in sufficient detail to permit repetition of the work elsewhere. Repetitive descriptions of a general procedure should be avoided. Authors must emphasize any unexpected, new, and/or significant hazards or risks associated with the reported work.
  • Units of measurement, abbreviations and symbols should follow the International System of Units (SI). Equations and formulae should be typed clearly. Equations should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page. Any special symbols should be identified in the margin. Tables should be typed with a suitable caption at the top of each table. All the tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Figures should be submitted and numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. For best results, figures should be submitted at the actual size at which they should appear in the journal and fit a half column width (Max. 8.0 cm). A full column width (Max. 17 cm) will be considered only when absolutely necessary to the clarity of the figure. For figures, the minimum font size should be 8 pt and the minimum line width should be 0.4 pt. TIFF, EPS or JPG files are the preferred format. Suggested packages for line graphics are Origin (preferred, please use line width 2 and symbol size 12), Adobe Illustrator (version 3.0 or above), Freehand and Corel Draw. Files of scanned line graphics can be accepted preferably at a resolution of 1000 dpi (Min. 600 dpi). Black and white photos, micrographs etc. should not be saved as color. Chemical Structures should be produced with the use of a drawing program such as ChemDraw. Structure drawing preferences are as follows: Chain angle should be 120º; the fixed length should be 14.4 pt; the bond width should be 2.0 pt; the bond spacing should be 18% of width; the line width should be 0.6 pt.
  • References. It is the responsibility of authors to ensure the accuracy of references. Article titles are now required within the references. Only one citation should appear within each reference number. References should be typed in the format of Chinese Journal of Polymer Science (see below) and cited in the text by superscript numbers with square bracket or spaces before punctuation. When more than one reference is cited in one place, separate the numbers by commas with one space. Authors should consult the Journal Web site available via as a guide to proper format.

Color Artwork

Please make sure that artwork files are in an acceptable format (TIFF, EPS or MS Office files) and with the correct resolution. If, together with your accepted article, you submit usable color figures then the Editorial Office will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in color on the Web regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For color reproduction in print, you willreceive information regarding the costs from the Editorial Office after receipt of your accepted article. Please indicate your preference for color in print or on the Web only.

Please note: Because of technical complications which can arise by converting color figures to "gray scale" (for the printed version should you not opt for color in print) please submit in addition usable black and white versions of all the color illustrations. 

At the editors discretion colour may be provided at no cost to the author, if it is deemed essential to the clarity and presentation of the article. Colour illustrations should be scanned at 300 dpi (500 dpi for halftones/line art combinations).

Research Data Policy

The journal encourages authors, where possible and applicable, to deposit data that support the findings of their research in a public repository. Authors and editors who do not have a preferred repository could directly choose the Science Data Bank (, or consult Springer Nature’s list of repositories and research data policy.
