The advancement of organic electronics relies critically on the development of n-type
π
-conjugated polymers. Herein
we report two cyano-functionalized benzoselenadiazole (CNBSz)-based conjugated polymers
Th-CNBSz and Se-CNBSz
incorporating diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) unit flanked by thiophene or selenophene moieties. The introduction of electron-deficient cyano substituents and a dual-acceptor backbone enables deep LUMO energy levels of down to −4.24 eV
allowing electron injection and n-doping. Meanwhile
the dual-acceptor framework promotes polaron delocalization along the polymer backbone. Density functional theory calculations reveal that selenophene substitution enhances backbone planarity
via
multiple synergistic intramolecular noncovalent interactions
whereas thiophene substitution imparts greater conformational flexibility
which facilitates backbone planarization in the solid state and improves molecular packing. As a result
despite its less planar backbone
Th-CNBSz exhibits superior electron mobility (0.26 c
