Polymer-integrated covalent organic frameworks (polyCOFs) are a promising class of hybrid materials. They combine the well-ordered crystalline architectures and high porosity of conventional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with the flexibility
processability
and mechanical robustness of the polymers. These hybrid materials are crafted by integrating polymer chains into COFs using a variety of approaches
including pre-synthetic
post-synthetic
and in-framework polymerization techniques. Such integration not only bolsters the structural stability of COFs
but also facilitates their dimensional expansion
thereby paving the way for their utilization across a broad spectrum of domains
including catalysis
energy storage
sensing
and biomedical applications. This feature article provides a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in polyCOF synthesis
their inherent properties
and rapidly expanding applications
while also offering valuable insights into prospective avenues for further advancement of polyCOF materials.
